On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stands apart
The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his voice role from the animated franchise), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon.
With the fierce and ambitious Astrid (BAFTA nominee Nico Parker; Dumbo, The Last of Us) and the village's quirky blacksmith Gobber (Nick Frost; Snow White and the Huntsman, Shaun of the Dead) by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding.
Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.
Copenhagen 1919: A young factory worker finds herself unemployed and pregnant. She meets Dagmar, who runs an underground adoption agency. A strong connection grows, but her world is shattered when she discovers the shocking truth behind her work. It’s the final days of the Great War, and Karoline is barely scraping by working in a factory. She believes she’s a widow because her husband disappeared during the war (even though Denmark didn’t actually participate), but she doesn’t receive widow’s benefits because he wasn’t listed as dead.
and I don’t want to give away spoilers, so I won’t go into much more detail about the plot, except that the marketing highlights something that isn’t as important a role in the film as one might expect. While this gets a lot of attention in the second half of the film, for me the real value of the film is the sense of reality surrounding Karoline’s story. . When was the last time someone in a film tried to convince a potential tenant to take an apartment by telling them they could get running water for two whole hours a day (from ten to noon, which might not be much of a selling point, since most people would be working during those hours)? When was the last time drug use from the era so honestly depicted?
Even what Dagmar does was relatively common back then, although I would hazard a guess that the trend was on the wane at this point and it wasn’t happening as much as it used to. In fact, I might have enjoyed the film more if the marketing had been different and Dagmar hadn’t been brought up, because it created expectations. On the other hand, it’s hard to say how I would have felt seeing the name Dagmar Overby on a door if I hadn’t known beforehand that this real-life person was used in the film. (It should be noted that the film is inspired by real-life events rather than based on them, so it tries to maintain a certain distance from the real Dagmar). I feel like some of the audience will have a hard time sympathizing with Karoline, as she sometimes seems to make the right decision a little too late.
At the same time, there’s not that much time or opportunity for ethics when you’re just trying to survive in a world where the odds are stacked against you. On the other hand, while we know that the hope she’s given won’t be in vain in this world, we still understand why she gives in. I like the look of the film. It’s black and white and the entire city seems decrepit and barely holding on. It reminds us of the lack of interest in the welfare or even contempt for the working poor.
Of course, all art is in some way a mirror of the time in which it was made, but it seems easier to see the similarities. Here.
Fleeing post-war Europe, visionary architect László Toth arrives in America to rebuild his life, business, and marriage to his wife Erzsébet after being forced apart during the war by shifting borders and regimes. Alone in a strange new land, László settles in Pennsylvania, where wealthy and prominent industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren recognizes his talent for building. But power and legacy come at a high price.
Rafiki passes on the legend of Mufasa to the young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature style. Told in flashbacks, the story presents Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and lonely, until he meets a friendly lion named Taka, heir to a royal bloodline. The chance encounter sets the stage for…
In the 1950s, an American man in his forties who had been in Mexico City lives a lonely life in a small American community. However, the arrival of a young student prompts the man to finally form a meaningful connection with someone. Daniel Craig eventually convinced Luca Guadagnino to play Drew Starkey after watching audition tapes with Guadagnino and telling him “That’s the guy” upon seeing Starkey’s.. Lee… I’m not queer.William Lee: I know.Eugene Allerton: I’m disembodied.. Features Orpheus (1950). QUEER. This word has more than one meaning.
The most common is “weird or strange.” The second most common word is “homosexual.” Both meanings apply to this film, but the first meaning is probably more appropriate. This film has much more in common with APOCALYPSE NOW than with BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. The story concerns "Lee", a man in his fifties in 1950. He is an American who has achieved a certain level of material success and is now living a rather hedonistic expatriate life in Mexico. He is an alcoholic and in the early stages of drug addiction. He spends his days and nights hanging out in gay bars and having meaningless relationships with men with whom he has nothing in common except that they are homosexuals. It is an empty existence. He wants to be known.
He meets a younger man who appears to be bisexual (his companion on the bar scene is a woman), but they begin a relationship. It is not very satisfying to him. He wants more from the younger man than the younger man is willing to give. Eventually he persuades him to accompany him on a trip to the jungles of South America to search for a plant containing a drug that will supposedly allow him to develop telepathic powers. He believes that this drug will allow him to understand what he wants without using words. He is told that there is a female shaman in the jungle who can buy him the plant. The two men enter the jungle and indeed find the woman, who, as played by Lesley Manville, is a brutal force – a knife-wielding, gun-toting old maid who seems bloodthirsty. They gain her trust, at least partially, but she warns them not to use the drugs.
This will open doors they will not be able to close. I am glad I saw this film, but it is not for everyone. The ending is enigmatic, and the gay sex scenes may be too specific for some people. It is not quite sophisticated pornography, but, mainly due to the sound effects, it comes close. And the drug-induced hallucinations can also be very upsetting for some people. This film is wonderful to watch; the art direction and cinematography are excellent, and every scene is beautifully composed. It reminded me of Edward Hopper’s paintings, which depict objective mental isolation. Daniel Craig can break your heart by doing very little.
I predict that both he and Lesley Manville will receive Oscar nominations – Manville could win in the supporting actress category. It wasn’t until I saw her name in the end credits that I realized that it was the same actress who played the lead role in MRS HARRIS GOES TO PARIS. I think this film will become a staple of the art house circuit. It’s definitely worth more than one viewing.

Porky Pig and Daffy Duck are Earth’s only hope when it faces the threat of an alien invasion. The first Looney Tunes film to be released in theaters that was not distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. After being dropped by the company, the film was sent to other distributors, and GFM Animation eventually acquired worldwide distribution rights and changed the film to a theatrical release.
Inside the meteor, when Daffy demonstrates his talent for control, he pulls the lever to lower the machine and pushes it to rise again. But when Porky and Petunia are strapped in, Daffy pushes the lever forward and the machine continues to lower them. At the end of the closing credits, Porky Pig makes his classic statement: "That’s all people!" only to be interrupted by Daffy Duck, who told him that this wasn’t the end of the movie and that they needed a sequel.. Mr. Bass ManWritten by Johnny CymbalDigitrax Entertainment in association with Covered Records, Inc.. I’m writing this review from Italy, where the film was released on November 7th. I was pretty curious to see it for various reasons that many others have already expressed.
They finally got a REAL movie where these characters can show off all their crazy traits in a more original way. The result is a great balance between this more classic aura (in more senses than you might think) and the more modern setting. First of all, the thing that everyone will agree on, I’m sure: it was such a pleasure to see 2D used again in a large production, and in such a fluid way that perfectly serves the characters’ expressiveness and dynamism, and all the settings’ dimensions. And speaking of characters, I appreciated the idea of focusing on Porky and Daffy, they’re simply the best duo of Tunes’ lot, although I have to admit I prefer Chuck Jones’ version of the duck, the more greedy and egotistical one, not a complete lunatic, but he serves his purpose well here, so I can’t complain.
Porky is just Porky, but he does a pretty good job of it too, and I liked the use of Petunia, she was really fun in her own right, and her design was really cute. Alien Invader had its moments too, its design may be simple but beautifully effective, clearly paying homage to classic 40s sci-fi films, just like the rest of the film. So, all in all, a perfect Looney Tunes plot, which many might find too simple or lacking in originality, and while I agree that they could have been a little more ambitious in terms of plot, and that some of the gags don’t really work, I also think that overall you should see this as a sincere love letter to the characters and their legacy, a good way to introduce them to a new audience and to remind old fans that this isn’t N-N-N-still not all people!
